Stoll Vaughn -- Singer / Songwriter

Such an Analog Instrument, the Guitar.

Such an Analog Instrument, the Guitar.

Last night, at the suggestion of some neighbors, we attended a singer / songwriter night at a local wine bar. The acts were varied in skill and professionalism, but one of them stood out for me: a guitar player named “Stoll Vaughan.”

Now I’m seriously not into country. Please, my country aficionado friends, no offense. I didn’t say that I think C&W sucks or anything like that — it’s just not my preference.

That said, Mr. Vaughn performed a rock-solid set of original tunes that I found both intelligent and appealing. He was polished and relaxed. His stories felt sincere and personal. His voice was on the money, pitch-wise. And he used a Piedmont blues-like right hand technique that really worked. He also managed to pull a bit more blues into his country than I’m used to hearing.

I looked him up on Spotify, and he has several albums. His latest is called “The Conversation.” It’s definitely worth checking out… even if you’re seriously not into country.
